The Detroit Lions have made another move, this time by waiving a player who is injured. Specifically, they waived/injured safety Martavius Neloms, according to Dave Birkett.
Neloms was signed back in April as an undrafted free agent out of Kentucky. He was never truly in the mix to make the 53-man roster considering how many safeties were ahead of him, but he could be a candidate for the practice squad in the future once he gets healthy.
According to Birkett, the foot injury Neloms suffered against the Buffalo Bills "could keep him out two months." With him being waived/injured, he will revert to injured reserve if he clears waivers, and at that point the Lions can either keep him there or release him with an injury settlement. If he stays on IR, he won't be able to end up on the practice squad.
The Lions now have 70 players left following this move.
