The Detroit Lions have released offensive tackle Kevin Haslam, according to Dave Birkett, meaning they now have 69 players left on their roster (as far as we know, anyway). Haslam is merely the latest player to be let go by the Lions on Saturday morning, and 16 more will be moved off the roster before the 6 p.m. ET deadline.
Haslam just joined the Lions a couple weeks back. The Lions added him as extra depth at offensive tackle, but he was never really a threat to make the 53-man roster. Starters Riley Reiff and Jason Fox and backups Corey Hilliard and LaAdrian Waddle have been the favorites to occupy the four spots at tackle, so it's no surprise that Haslam has been let go.
This move essentially confirms that the Lions will go into the 2013 season with Reiff, Fox, Hilliard and Waddle as their tackles. They always keep at least four, and Waddle, an undrafted free agent out of Texas Tech, appears to have made the team after a strong showing in the preseason.
