As expected, the Detroit Lions have released punter Blake Clingan, according to a tweet he just posted.
Well it was a great experience being a part of the Detroit Lions..Excited to see what the future holds for me!!
— Blake Clingan (@BClingan8) August 31, 2013
Clingan joined the Lions back in March after earning a contract via a tryout. He was the Lions' only punter at the time, but that changed after the team drafted Sam Martin in April. It was pretty clear at that point that Martin was the favorite to make the 53-man roster, and that point was only reinforced in the preseason. Clingan did an admirable job, but the spot at punter was Martin's all the way.
The Lions have now moved 12 players off their roster so far on Saturday, leaving only 10 moves to get down to 53 players.
