Lions roster cuts: Blake Clingan released

The Detroit Lions have released punter Blake Clingan. Follow all of the Lions' moves as they get down to 53 players with our roster cuts tracker.

Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports

As expected, the Detroit Lions have released punter Blake Clingan, according to a tweet he just posted.

Clingan joined the Lions back in March after earning a contract via a tryout. He was the Lions' only punter at the time, but that changed after the team drafted Sam Martin in April. It was pretty clear at that point that Martin was the favorite to make the 53-man roster, and that point was only reinforced in the preseason. Clingan did an admirable job, but the spot at punter was Martin's all the way.

The Lions have now moved 12 players off their roster so far on Saturday, leaving only 10 moves to get down to 53 players.
