Lions quotes: Jim Schwartz's comments from Tuesday

Quotes from Jim Schwartz's media session after Tuesday's Detroit Lions training camp practice.

Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports

Below is a look at what Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz had to say after Tuesday's training camp practice. (Quotes provided by the Lions.)

On the injuries of DE Jason Jones and S Louis Delmas: "Well Jason's was more of a reaction. We started camp trying to be proactive with Lou. We didn't really expect that with Jason, but it came up and we short of changed his protocol. We'll still sort of work around it. It might be similar to Lou. It might be a little bit different. The rest helped him and he was able to get out here today. We just like to keep it that way."

On who has stood out for the 4 and 5 receiver slots: "We'll see in preseason games. I think we have very good competition in there. We have a lot of guys that are capable of claiming it. It's just one of those things where some days it looks like somebody had a really good day, then other days somebody else will step up. Like we said before, the person who gets an open job is somebody that is going to be consistent over the course of time."

On if the open 4 and 5 receiver slots need to be filled with players who have skills that complement WRs Calvin Johnson, Nate Burleson, and Ryan Broyles: "They have to have a role in offense. I wouldn't necessarily say that they have to compliment the other guys. They have to have something that they can bring to the party. Having something that they can contribute offensively or to special teams, that'll be important in those evaluations also."

On DE Ziggy Ansah's performance with the ones and his movement from team to team during reps: "Reps are reps in camps. They get plenty of reps regardless of what unit they're running with when we get the team, they get plenty of reps in one-on-one and against other competition. It's just the number of reps more so than the group you're running with. The only guys that are worried about what group people are running with are you guys. Our guys are just out there practicing and trying to get as many reps as they can and trying to do well in the reps that they get. Ziggy is no different than the other guys in that regard."

On if S Louis Delmas will play on Friday: "We'll make a lot of those decisions tomorrow night as we get a little bit closer. We'll probably have some guys that we'll hold out. Other guys will just wait and see where they are. Generally it would be nice to have all the guys available, but we'll make the best decision on that."

On if it's beneficial at all to play Delmas: "I think there are certainly benefits to being out and playing and working with the other players on defense to find some rhythm and continuity that way. That's not different than Calvin Johnson and Matthew Stafford and many other players."
