POLL: Where are the Lions strongest in 2013?

What position group is in the strongest shape for the Detroit Lions?

Gregory Shamus

The Detroit Lions made a lot of changes to their roster this offseason in hopes of becoming a more talented team. On Friday night, the Lions will kick off the preseason and get a look at many of these changes.

Before the preseason begins, I want to get your take on the following question: What position group is in the strongest shape for the Lions? On paper, the Lions have a lot of talent at positions like quarterback, running back, wide receiver and defensive tackle, and they have a good deal of talent at other positions as well. Which one stands out to you as being the most talented and deepest?

I honestly had a pretty tough time answering this question because one single position didn't stand out to me as being the most talented and deepest. At wide receiver, for example, the Lions have a ton of talent on paper thanks to Calvin Johnson, but they're not very deep. At running back, on the other hand, the Lions have three solid players in Reggie Bush, Mikel Leshoure and Joique Bell, but none of them are obviously on the same level as Megatron.

I ultimately settled on defensive tackle for my vote. Ndamukong Suh is already a two-time Pro Bowler, and I wouldn't be surprised one bit if Nick Fairley adds that honor this season. The Lions don't have a ton of talent behind them, but in terms of overall strength of the starters, Suh and Fairley could be the best defensive tackle tandem in all of the NFL.
