The Detroit Lions went into Week 1 in great shape from an injury standpoint. That's no longer the case, though. Offensive tackle Jason Fox, defensive tackle Nick Fairley and safety Don Carey all were out in Week 2, and a couple other players got banged up on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.
We've already covered running back Reggie Bush's status, so let's talk about another offensive player: wide receiver Patrick Edwards. He left Sunday's game with an ankle injury, and Jim Schwartz said on Monday that Edwards suffered a sprained ankle. Edwards was taken to and from the Lions' sideline on a cart, which is never a good sign, but just how long he will be out is unclear.
It's also unclear when Fairley will return. Schwartz indicated on Monday that Fairley is day-to-day, which is about as vague as it gets for an injury update. I was surprised that Fairley didn't play on Sunday considering he returned to practice on Friday, but clearly the Lions felt he wasn't healthy enough to suit up.
In other injury news, wide receiver Ryan Broyles is "getting closer" to returning, according to Schwartz. The Lions are slowly bringing him up to speed, and it's worth noting that he made his NFL debut in Week 3 last season. Perhaps he will be able to at least get back on the field relatively soon as he continues to progress.
