The Detroit Lions' schedule is looking quite a bit easier now than it did coming into the season. Of the Lions' 12 future opponents, six are off to a 0-2 start to the season. The overall record for the teams the Lions will play in their next 14 games is 10-18 through two weeks, and the Chicago Bears are the only undefeated team left on their schedule.
In Week 2, the Lions' future opponents combined to go 6-8. Here's a look at how each team performed:
Week 3 - at Redskins (0-2) - lost to Packers, 38-20
Washington was down 31-0 at one point and allowed Aaron Rodgers to throw for 480 yards and 4 touchdowns. It's been a rough couple weeks for the Redskins.
Week 4 - vs. Bears (2-0) - beat Vikings, 31-30
Jay Cutler led the Bears to victory on a 16-yard touchdown pass to Martellus Bennett with only 10 seconds left in the game. The touchdown was the only time Chicago scored in the second half after putting up 24 points in the first two quarters.
Week 5 - at Packers (1-1) - beat Redskins, 38-20
In addition to Rodgers going off on the Redskins, the Packers had their first 100-yard rusher in 45 games with James Starks going for 132 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. In total, the Packers racked up 580 yards.
Week 6 - at Browns (0-2) - lost to Ravens, 14-6
All Brandon Weeden could manage against Baltimore was 227 yards passing, and Trent Richardson only had 58 yards rushing on 18 carries. It was an ugly display offensively considering the Browns were playing a team that allowed 7 passing touchdowns against Peyton Manning in Week 1.
Week 7 - vs. Bengals (1-1) - beat Steelers, 20-10
Rookie Giovani Bernard scored both of Cincinnati's touchdowns (one on the ground and one through the air), and Mike Nugent added a pair of field goals in a big home victory on Monday night.
Week 8 - vs. Cowboys (1-1) - lost to Chiefs, 17-16
Dallas rushed for only 37 yards on 16 carries and managed only a single touchdown on the day.
Week 10 - at Bears (2-0) - beat Vikings, 31-30
See above.
Week 11 - at Steelers (0-2) - lost to Bengals, 20-10
Pittsburgh's offense was once again a mess with the running game continuing to be nonexistent. The Steelers picked up only 44 yards on 16 carries, and they managed only 10 points.
Week 12 - vs. Buccaneers (0-2) - lost to Saints, 16-14
Tampa Bay is in disarray right now, and another rough performance by Josh Freeman -- he went 9 for 22 for 152 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception -- didn't help the situation.
Week 13 - vs. Packers (1-1) - beat Redskins, 38-20
See above.
Week 14 - at Eagles (1-1) - lost to Chargers, 33-30
Michael Vick put up some ridiculous numbers -- 428 yards passing and 2 touchdowns, plus a rushing touchdown -- but the Philadelphia defense wasn't able to keep Eddie Royal (3 touchdowns) out of the end zone. The Philly defense also couldn't prevent a late San Diego field goal after the Eagles rallied to tie things up late in the game.
Week 15 - vs. Ravens (1-1) - beat Browns, 14-6
A pair of second half touchdowns was enough for Baltimore to win this game. It's a positive sign for the Ravens that their defense rebounded, but that may have had more to do with the team they played than anything.
Week 16 - vs. Giants (0-2) - lost to Broncos, 41-23
New York went into halftime down 10-9. The Giants then proceeded to get outscored 31-14 in the second half. Eli Manning threw 4 interceptions in this game, and the Giants have now turned the ball over 10 times through the first two weeks of the season.
Week 17 - at Vikings (0-2) - lost to Bears, 31-30
Minnesota used 3 field goals by Blair Walsh in the second half to take a 30-24 lead, but they weren't able to keep Chicago out of the end zone late in the game and lost as a result.
