All offseason, we heard that Detroit Lions wide receiver Ryan Broyles was ahead of schedule in his recovery from a torn ACL. The thinking was that he'd be ready to go for the start of the regular season, but he was inactive for the first two games. Clearly, the Lions felt he wasn't up to speed enough to contribute to the offense.
Last year, Broyles made his official debut in Week 3 of the season. He was actually active in Week 2, but he didn't play until Week 3. Broyles didn't actually record his first catch until Week 7, but he was at least playing before then.
As the Lions enter Week 3 of this season, might it be time for Broyles to make his 2013 debut? He got some playing time in the preseason, but we haven't seen him yet in the regular season. Based on what Broyles and Nate Burleson said on Wednesday, though, perhaps that could change this week.
Ryan Broyles: "I feel like I'm capable of playing...Whenever they feel I'm capable enough to go out there and play, they'll give me a shot."

Nate Burleson: "Take my word for it: Broyles is ready." #Lions

Patrick Edwards missed practice on Wednesday because of an ankle injury, and his status could be up in the air for Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins. Simply from a timing standpoint, the stars could be aligning for Broyles to not only be active this week, but for him to actually play as well. The Lions could certainly use him, and he sounds more than ready to get on the field.
