Lions hosting Marvin Austin for visit

The Detroit Lions are bringing in a defensive tackle for a visit.

The Detroit Lions are set to host free-agent defensive tackle Marvin Austin for a visit on Monday, according to Jason La Canfora. Austin was just let go by the New York Giants during the final round of roster cuts, and now he's looking for a new team.

La Canfora mentioned that Austin could be "interesting in [the Lions'] strong rotation." That strong rotation is why I'm a little unsure of why the Lions would sign him. If Austin is just in town to work out for the team, then they're probably just taking a look at him in case someone gets hurt down the road. If they are actually interested in signing him, could they be considering going with five defensive tackles? The top four seems set, so it would definitely be interesting if the Lions made a move to sign him.

In any case, Austin is a former second-round pick out of North Carolina. He was actually suspended for all of 2010 by North Carolina, and he ended up being a second-round pick despite there being many character concerns surrounding him in the lead-up to the draft.

With the Giants, Austin missed his entire rookie season because of an injury. He made his debut in 2012, and he played in eight games.
