Detroit Lions running back Mikel Leshoure hasn't played a single snap all season. He was inactive for the first two weeks of the 2013 season, and he didn't see the field once on Sunday despite being on the active list. He has been passed on the depth chart by Joique Bell and even Theo Riddick, making it pretty clear that he doesn't currently have a role in the Lions' offense.
Leshoure's lack of playing time has led to speculation that he could be traded, and it turns out that at least one team has already inquired about a potential deal. CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports that the Indianapolis Colts "made overtures" to the Lions about Leshoure before ultimately sending a first-round pick to the Cleveland Browns for Trent Richardson.
The strange part about this story is that the Lions "quickly rebuffed" the Colts' interest in Leshoure, according to the report. This seemingly indicates that Leshoure is not currently available for a trade, even though he currently isn't even in their plans offensively. I suppose it's possible that the Lions simply want to hang on to him for extra depth for now, especially with Reggie Bush recovering from an injury, and perhaps they just don't want to give him away with his value so low.
In any case, I'm sure this won't be the last time we hear about a potential trade involving Leshoure. Especially as we get closer to the trade deadline, it'll be worth watching if any running back-needy teams explore a deal for Leshoure. It's highly unlikely the Lions will get much of anything for him, but better to get something than let him sit on the bench all season, I suppose.
In other trade news, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Sunday that the Browns are "fielding offers" for wide receivers Josh Gordon and Greg Little. Gordon would be an outstanding addition, but he likely wouldn't come cheap considering what he did on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings -- 10 catches for 146 yards and a touchdown.
For what it's worth, the Browns have already denied that they intend to make any additional trades, and it's worth noting that offensive tackle Joe Thomas is not on the block as of right now. This doesn't mean additional moves won't happen, of course, so perhaps the Lions could view the Browns as a potential trade partner down the road regardless of what happens with Leshoure.
