Lions decide to bring back Andre Fluellen

The Detroit Lions are re-signing defensive tackle Andre Fluellen yet again.

USA TODAY Sports

With defensive end Jason Jones out for the season, the Detroit Lions have decided to fill his spot on the roster with a familiar face. It's not defensive end Lawrence Jackson, though. Instead, the Lions have opted to re-sign defensive tackle Andre Fluellen, according to his agent.

This is Fluellen's fourth stint with the Lions. He was most recently let go during the final round of cuts in August. Before that, he spent time with the Lions at the end of last season and in training camp in 2012. In between his first and second stint, Fluellen was with the Miami Dolphins for a couple games, and he spent some time with the Chicago Bears this past offseason in between his second and third stint in Detroit.

The thinking on Sunday was that Jackson might be re-signed to provide extra depth at defensive end. However, Jim Schwartz indicated on Monday that the Lions are going to "lean on" rookie Devin Taylor with Jones out. As a result, they decided to bring back Fluellen, who is a defensive tackle. Fluellen has the versatility to line up outside at end as well, but his primary position as of late has been defensive tackle.

The moves involving Jones going to injured reserve and Fluellen re-signing aren't official just yet, but expect the Lions to make an announcement later on Monday.
