Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham is going into the 2013 regular season with probably more talent than he's ever had in his time with this team. The Lions have a loaded defensive line that includes perhaps the top defensive tackle tandem in the NFL, and they have a lot of talent in the back seven as well. A lot of that talent is young and/or inexperienced, but the main thing is that there is talent in place.
Cunningham received a 54 percent approval rating back in June when we last did a poll on him. This came after a rough 2012 season for the defense that was highlighted by their overall lack of play-making ability. Already we've seen the Lions make quite a few plays on defense this year, but that was merely in the preseason. Will the defense carry that over to the regular season? Only time will tell.
For now, go vote in the poll below on Cunningham and leave your thoughts in the comments.
