Lions coaching rumors: Ken Whisenhunt's decision coming soon?

It appears that a decision from Ken Whisenhunt may be coming pretty soon, and one rumor suggests he's having another meeting with the Detroit Lions on Monday.

Things are starting to move forward on the Ken Whisenhunt front. Via Michael Rothstein, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Monday morning that a decision from Whisenhunt on his future is "likely" going to be made in the next 48 hours. What's more, Schefter said that the Tennessee Titans "shouldn't be discounted" as a team that is in the running for Whisenhunt.

At this point, it does seem like a two-team race to land Whisenhunt's services. The Detroit Lions have been the favorite to hire Whisenhunt for some time now, but the Titans are reportedly "very interested" in him as well. Like Detroit, Tennessee interviewed him last week.

The Cleveland Browns were also reportedly scheduled to interview Whisenhunt last week, but they don't seem to be in the mix for him at this stage. The Browns are actually set to interview Mike Munchak on Monday, according to Alex Marvez. Munchak interviewed with the Lions last week for their head coaching job, and he also spoke with the Houston Texans about their offensive line coach position.

It definitely seems like the Lions' coaching search is poised to be wrapped up in the next day or so depending on what Whisenhunt decides to do. Aside from the fact that he is expected to make a decision in the next couple days, there's this:

If Whisenhunt is indeed already meeting with the Lions for a second time, that seems like a pretty good indication that he is on the verge of being hired. Contract negotiations obviously have to take place first, but if this report is true, the Lions seem to be in a good position to make sure Whisenhunt gets a deal before he leaves town.

UPDATE: Whisenhunt is still in San Diego.
