Calvin Johnson undergoes two surgeries to repair injuries

Calvin Johnson recently went under the knife on two separate occasions to get injuries repaired.

Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson had knee surgery last week to repair an injury that bothered him throughout the 2013 season. But that's not all! Johnson also had surgery this week to repair a finger injury that apparently bothered him throughout the 2013 season as well.

Johnson's specific injuries were not disclosed, but his knee surgery was simply a "minor" scope. In other words, this doesn't appear to be an injury that will require a lengthy recovery period or extensive rehab or anything like that. No timetable has been released, but I would think that Johnson will be up to full speed sooner rather than later.

As for the finger injury, Lions general manager Martin Mayhew speculated on Wednesday that it could have contributed to Johnson's problems with drops in 2013. From MLive:

"He played the entire season where the finger was really pointing perpendicular from his body," Mayhew said Wednesday at Ford Field shortly after the introduction of Jim Caldwell as the team's new head coach.

"He's trying to catch the ball (awkwardly). He would never complain about that, but that was certainly a factor I think in the way he played."

Despite dealing with multiple injuries, Johnson finished with 84 catches for 1,492 yards and 12 touchdowns in only 14 games in 2013. He also dealt with injuries throughout 2011 and 2012, which is why he is now set to miss his third straight Pro Bowl.
