Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell interviewed with the Detroit Lions on Friday for their vacant head coaching job. The interview was the first for the Lions since their coaching search officially began on Monday.
Following Caldwell's interview, he spoke with Tim Twentyman about the Lions, his experience and this particular situation. Here's a recap of what Caldwell said:
Just got a chance to talk to Ravens OC Jim Caldwell. Very impressive man. Told me fundamentals and technique are what win consistently.

Caldwell: "This is an unusual situation because of the fact that you don’t typically walk into a place that has a talented quarterback."

Caldwell: "The experience of working with Peyton Manning has helped me a tremendous amount. He’s a guy with a lot of drive and ability...

"but he’s also guy that has talent but works extremely hard and sets great standard for the individuals that want to perfect their craft."

Caldwell previously interviewed for the Washington Redskins' head coaching job on Wednesday, so this was his second interview this week. He was also believed to be a potential candidate to replace Bill O'Brien at Penn State, but it sounds like the Nittany Lions may hire Miami's Al Golden.
For the Lions, this is merely the first step in their search to find a new head coach. It's expected that San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt will get an interview next week, and I'm sure there will be others who speak with the Lions at some point before a hire is made.
