Jay Gruden isn't the only offensive coordinator the Detroit Lions have reportedly requested permission to interview. The Lions have also requested permission to speak with San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt, as have three other teams, according to Jason La Canfora.

This isn't at all surprising given how much news there was about Whisenhunt and the Lions over the weekend. Whisenhunt is believed by many to be the Lions' top candidate to replace Jim Schwartz, and one report suggested that Whisenhunt views the Lions' job as the best one available right now because there is an opportunity to win immediately.
With the Chargers still in the playoffs, the Lions can only interview Whisenhunt this week. They can't officially hire him until San Diego is eliminated, but if he is truly their top candidate, I'm sure the Lions will be willing to wait.
