Lions to interview Mike Munchak, according to report

The Detroit Lions are planning to bring in former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak for an interview.

The Tennessee Titans fired head coach Mike Munchak last Saturday, and now he's scheduled to interview with the Detroit Lions for their head coaching vacancy on Friday, according to Ed Werder. This is the first we've even heard about Munchak being a potential candidate to replace Jim Schwartz, and it appears that Munchak isn't going to be alone during his interview.

Munchak was fired by the Titans after completing his third season as head coach. He went 9-7, 6-10 and 7-9 in his three seasons, but he was only fired because he declined to make changes to his coaching staff. When that happened, the Titans decided to let him go and move in a different direction.

Munchak is also believed to be in the running for the Penn State job. He played at Penn State before being drafted by the Houston Oilers, which later became the Titans. He had been with the Titans franchise as either a player or a coach since 1982, but now he's looking for a new place to call home, and he'll get a chance to speak with the Lions later this week.
