San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt is believed to be the Detroit Lions' top candidate in their coaching search, and he will get a chance to solidify that notion on Thursday, according to ESPN's Ed Werder. Whisenhunt is expected to interview for the Lions' head coaching vacancy on Thursday evening, and the meeting will likely be held in San Diego.
With the Lions having to hit the road for their interview with Whisenhunt, they have apparently decided to reschedule their interview with former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak. They originally were scheduled to speak with him on Friday, but ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that Munchak is now set to meet with the Lions on Wednesday.
With Munchak's meeting taking place a couple days early and Whisenhunt expected to speak with the Lions on Thursday, here's an updated look at the team's interview schedule:
Jim Caldwell: January 3
Gary Kubiak: January 7
Mike Munchak: January 8
Ken Whisenhunt: January 9
The Lions can hire the first three names on that list whenever they want, but they will have to wait for Whisenhunt's Chargers to be knocked out of the playoffs before they can officially extend an offer to him.
