Happy Ken Whisenhunt Day, everybody!
The Detroit Lions set off for San Diego on Thursday morning to interview Whisenhunt for their head coaching job. Whisenhunt, the current offensive coordinator of the San Diego Chargers, is getting ready to take on the Denver Broncos in a playoff game, but the Chargers have granted him permission to interview for head coaching jobs. His interview with the Lions is set for Thursday.
Chargers OC Ken Whisenhunt is scheduled to have HC interviews with Lions today, with Titans on Friday, and with Browns on Saturday. Busy man

The San Diego Union-Tribune has details on the interview process for Whisenhunt. Interested teams submitted written requests earlier in the week, and times and places for interviews were "planned in accordance" with the Chargers. There's a rule that prevents teams from speaking with Whisenhunt for more than four hours in order to ensure that interviews don't interfere with the Chargers' preparations for Sunday's game.
With Whisenhunt scheduled to interview with the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns later in the week, it will be interesting to see if his plans change at all following Thursday's interview with the Lions. If those other two interviews suddenly don't happen, that could be a sign that the Lions have made their decision on a replacement for Jim Schwartz, although no official offer can actually be extended until after the Chargers exit the playoffs.
