The Detroit Lions' win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday didn't exactly move the needle very much when it comes to NFL power rankings. I say that because the Lions only moved up one or two spots in this week's power rankings despite completely shutting down the Vikings. Take a look:
- SB Nation: 13th (up from 15th)
- NFL.com: 13th (up from 14th)
- ESPN: 13th (up from 14th)
- CBS Sports: 13th (up from 14th)
- FOX Sports: 8th (up from 10th)
- Pro Football Talk: 14th (up from 16th)
I was thinking the Lions might creep back up toward the top 10 in the non-FOX Sports power rankings, but instead they're no higher than 13th. I suppose it'll take more than one win for the Lions to regain the ground they lost a week ago following their home defeat to the Buffalo Bills.
The New Orleans Saints, which will come to Ford Field this week, are 22nd (SB Nation), 23rd (NFL.com), 17th (ESPN), 20th (CBS Sports), 22nd (FOX Sports) and 17th (Pro Football Talk). Considering they got off to a 2-3 start, I'm a bit surprised any power rankings have them as high as 17th, let alone two sets of them. Then again, I suppose that just speaks to the perception that the Saints are a better team than their record suggests. Is that perception really accurate? I guess we'll find out on Sunday.
