The 2014 NFL trade deadline is nearing. Next Tuesday will be the final day that teams are permitted to make trades this season, and given the move that sent Percy Harvin to the New York Jets last week, I suppose we shouldn't rule out the possibility of some noteworthy deals being worked out just before the deadline.
It does not appear that the Detroit Lions will be involved in any trades this year, though. Lions general manager Martin Mayhew met with the local media over in England on Thursday, and he made it clear that he has no plans to trade defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, and he really doesn't have any plans to be active in the general trade market either.

In the last couple of years, the Lions have been in situations where they needed to add players, particularly at wide receiver. A year ago, for example, there were lots of rumors swirling about Hakeem Nicks or even Josh Gordon being traded to the Lions. Neither player ended up in Detroit, of course, but this year those types of rumors don't even exist.
More than anything, the Lions simply need to get players healthy at this point. If they can get guys like Reggie Bush, Calvin Johnson, Eric Ebron, Joseph Fauria and Kyle Van Noy completely healthy during their upcoming bye week, they will get a big boost going into the second half of the season without having to add anybody via a trade.
