This week's collection of NFL power rankings is quite interesting for the Detroit Lions. I say that because their ranking currently ranges anywhere from fourth to ninth following their stunning comeback victory in London over the Atlanta Falcons. Take a look:
- SB Nation: 4th (up from 8th)
- NFL.com: 9th (up from 11th)
- ESPN: 6th (up from 10th)
- CBS Sports: 6th (up from 10th)
- FOX Sports: 9th (down from 7th)
- Pro Football Talk: 6th (up from 10th)
In most power rankings, the Lions are on the verge of breaking into the top five. SB Nation, however, already has the Lions in the top five. In fact, the Lions are behind only the Denver Broncos, Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots. That's some pretty nice company.
On the flip side, FOX Sports strangely dropped the Lions two spots this week. This is so strange because FOX Sports has consistently had the Lions ranked higher than all of the other publications throughout the season. I get that it took a pretty miraculous comeback for the Lions to win on Sunday, but this seems like an odd time to suddenly drop them.
In any case, I wouldn't expect the Lions to move around much in next week's power rankings considering they are on a bye this week. When they return to action, they will take on the Miami Dolphins, and that game will really give them a chance to cement their status as a top-five team.
