Lions injury report: Updates on Calvin Johnson, Joique Bell, Reggie Bush, others

The Detroit Lions were without Calvin Johnson and Reggie Bush on Wednesday, but Joique Bell returned to practice.

At this point, it looks highly unlikely that Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson will play against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Johnson aggravated his ankle injury last week against the Buffalo Bills on his one and only catch of the day, and it turns out that he has a high-ankle sprain. The injury kept him out of practice on Wednesday, and Johnson didn't exactly sound confident in his chances of playing this week.

The best course of action for both Johnson and the Lions seems to be giving him at least one week off so he can rest and get back to full health. The Lions will miss Johnson quite a bit if he doesn't play, but better to get healthy now than potentially prolong the recovery process even more with a repeat of last Sunday.

In other injury news, running backs Joique Bell and Theo Riddick both returned to practice after missing last week's game. Bell was out with a concussion, while Riddick was out with a hamstring injury. Their return to practice is a positive development considering running back Reggie Bush missed Wednesday's practice with an ankle injury of his own. With his status for Sunday up in the air, Bell, Riddick and George Winn may be the main running backs this week.

Here's the Lions' full injury report for Wednesday:

RB Reggie Bush (ankle) - Did not practice
RB Joique Bell (concussion) - Fully practiced
RB Theo Riddick (hamstring) - Fully practiced
WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) - Did not practice
TE Joseph Fauria (ankle) - Did not practice
LB Travis Lewis (quadricep) - Did not practice
CB Cassius Vaughn (ankle) - Fully practiced
S Jerome Couplin (ribs) - Limited in practice
