Lions notes: TJ Jones stays on PUP list

New, comments

Lions notes looks at TJ Jones' status going forward, the effect Teryl Austin has had on the defense and much more.

Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports
  • On Monday, the Detroit Lions officially decided to keep rookie wide receiver TJ Jones on the PUP list. He had been practicing for the past few weeks, but now his season is officially over. This is no surprise, as Jones missed all of training camp and wasn't even able to start practicing until recently. Freeing up a roster spot and throwing him into the mix now wouldn't have made much sense, so Jones will simply be on the shelf the rest of the season and compete for a spot on the 53-man roster next year.

  • Should we call this the Teryl Austin effect?
  • Golden Tate was mic'd up on Sunday.

  • Calvin Johnson is the Lions' nominee for the inaugural NFL Sportsmanship Award.

  • Matthew Stafford is one of the nominees for the FedEx Air Player of Week 14.

  • Remember Nick Fairley's 2012 DUI? It still hasn't been resolved from a legal standpoint, and Fairley now has a February 2015 trial date.

  • The announcers for Sunday's game between the Lions and Minnesota Vikings are going to be Chris Myers and Ronde Barber (yes, they are announcing yet another Lions game).
