The Detroit Lions have made it official: LaAdrian Waddle's season is over. He was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday, ending his injury-riddled season.

With an open spot on the roster, there was some speculation that the Lions were simply going to promote offensive tackle Michael Williams, who is on the practice squad. Instead, however, they claimed cornerback Josh Thomas off waivers after he was released by the New York Jets.

Thomas, who was recently in the news for having his playbook stolen, joins the Lions after making one appearance with the Jets. Earlier in the season, he played in three games for the Seattle Seahawks, and before that, he was with the Carolina Panthers from 2011-13.

So, why add Thomas? The Lions only had four cornerbacks on their roster before claiming him off waivers, and one of them, Mohammed Seisay, is dealing with a hamstring injury. Thomas will likely just play on special teams if he is active on Sunday, but I suppose he could step in as extra depth at the cornerback position as well.
