Adam Caplan reports that free-agent defensive tackle Vaughn Martin recently visited the Detroit Lions, as well as the New York Jets. The Lions showed some interest in Martin on a couple occasions last year, and Caplan notes that Martin is now "fully recovered from his hernia surgery from last season." Perhaps the Lions will sign him as extra depth at defensive tackle in the future.

- SB Nation gave each NFL team an "ideal target" for free agency, and the Lions got paired up with cornerback Sam Shields, who spent his first four years in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers. I could go for that.
- Also at SB Nation is a consensus big board for the 2014 NFL Draft.
- One more SB Nation link: Check out the longform piece that recently went up on Rhodes Scholar Myron Rolle and the NFL.

Nate Burleson believes that the Lions' locker room "would be ready" for Missouri defensive end Michael Sam, who recently announced that he's gay. Burleson thinks that for the Lions, "nobody is going to be too concerned with what you’re doing outside of the locker room or outside the jersey."

Stephen Tulloch shared similar thoughts on the possibility of Sam joining the Lions.
Great to talk to @stephentulloch. He says #Lions locker room is good place and Sam would be welcome. Tulloch says players just want to win.

- ESPN actually looked at each team's chances of drafting Sam and declared the odds low for the Lions since they run a 4-3 defense. Sam appears to be better suited for a 3-4 scheme since he could wind up playing outside linebacker in the NFL.
