2013 POD Awards: Special Teams Player of the Year

Which Detroit Lions player should be named the Special Teams Player of the Year? Vote here as part of the 2013 POD Awards.

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

Next up in the 2013 POD Awards is the category for the Detroit Lions' Special Teams Player of the Year. Here are the nominees:

WR Jeremy Ross

Ross played in only 10 games for the Lions, but he scored a pair of touchdowns on returns, and he averaged 29.3 yards per kick return and 16.2 yards per punt return.

LB Tahir Whitehead

Whitehead recorded 9 tackles and 1 forced fumble in 2013, and he was voted the Lions' most valuable player on special teams by his teammates.

S John Wendling

Wendling was again one of the Lions' top players on their kick and punt coverage units. He finished with 14 tackles in 2013, 10 of which were of the solo variety.

P Sam Martin

As a rookie, Martin punted the ball 72 times and had an average of 47.2 yards. His net average was 41.0 yards, and 22 of his punts were downed inside the 20-yard line. Also, he served as the Lions' kickoff specialist for most of the season.

LS Don Muhlbach

Muhlbach was not named to the Pro Bowl like last year, but he was once again basically invisible during the season. That's usually a good thing for a long snapper, as they typically only receive attention when a mistake happens.
