Our first 2014 NFL mock draft database for the Detroit Lions has arrived. Below you can find 27 different mocks and what they are predicting the Lions to do in this year's draft. As we get closer to the draft, more and more mocks will be added to the database, and the accuracy of the database should improve. Case in point: At this time last year, only one mock draft had the Lions selecting Ziggy Ansah. Dee Milliner, Damontre Moore and Bjoern Werner were actually the favorites. By the time the draft arrived in April, though, Ansah was the clear favorite.
So, without further ado, here's the first edition of our 2014 NFL mock draft database:

Positions (first round)
- Wide receiver - 10
- Cornerback - 9
- Linebacker - 6
- Offensive tackle - 2
It's no surprise that wide receiver and cornerback are currently the two most popular positions for the Lions in the first round. Most people believe that those positions are the Lions' top two needs, and linebacker is next in line for the same reason. Amazingly, two mocks actually have the Lions taking an offensive tackle, and that is not even remotely a need. To the people who think the Lions need an offensive tackle in the first round, I suggest you look up the name LaAdrian Waddle.
Players (first round)
- CB Justin Gilbert - 5
- WR Mike Evans - 4
- CB Darqueze Dennard - 4
- WR Sammy Watkins - 3
- WR Marqise Lee - 3
- LB C.J. Mosley - 3
- LB Khalil Mack - 2
- OT Taylor Lewan - 1
- OT Greg Robinson - 1
- LB Anthony Barr - 1
There is no real clear favorite at this point for the Lions' first-round pick. Oklahoma State cornerback Justin Gilbert barely leads the way, and he is followed by Michigan State cornerback Darqueze Dennard and a few of the top wide receivers.
As we found out last year, it can be tough to get even a couple picks correct in a mock draft, especially when we're still three months away from the actual event. Even so, it's still interesting to track how opinions change over time, and it's interesting to think about which players could potentially be picks for the Lions. If nothing else, mock drafts give us something to talk about as we count down the days until the actual picks begin.
(The 2014 NFL Draft, by the way, is going to be held May 8-10, so mock draft season will be a bit longer than usual this year.)
