The start of free agency is almost here, and there are two notable updates on wide receivers and the Detroit Lions. For starters, it looks like you can go ahead and cross James Jones off the list of potential options at wide receiver. The Green Bay Packers wide receiver was reportedly drawing "heavy interest" from the Lions on Monday night, but now it looks like Detroit is not a possible landing spot for him.
i'm still hearing NY Jets in the mix for receiver James Jones along with NY Giants, Miami Dolphins and a fourth team...Detroit Lions no more

Instead of Jones, might the Seattle Seahawks' Golden Tate be an option? Ian Rapoport is hearing that the Lions have interest in Tate, who is hitting free agency after catching 64 passes for 898 yards and 5 touchdowns last season.
Tate could end up getting a pretty big contract considering he is viewed as one of the top free-agent wide receivers. As a result, this sort of feels like another situation where the Lions may have interest in a player, but they probably won't be able to afford him. I suppose we'll find out soon enough, though.
