Shortly after wide receiver Golden Tate agreed to a five-year deal with the Detroit Lions, the details on his new contract leaked out. According to Josina Anderson, Tate's deal is worth a total of $31 million and includes $13.25 million in guaranteed money. That amounts to an average of $6.2 million a season, although his first-year cap hit will likely come in at a number much lower than that.
Also via Anderson, Tate had this to say about his decision to join the Lions:
"I am extremely excited. I just looked over everything very closely. I am excited to learn and play across from Calvin Johnson. I am also looking forward to growing with Matthew Stafford. I think I will bring another dimension to this offense. I see a ton of upside of this organization."
Tate followed up the news with a tweet of his own:
Wow I'm officially a Detroit #Lion. Extremely excited about the opportunity to grow with this organization.
