You can go ahead and cross Luke McCown off the list of potential backup quarterbacks for the Detroit Lions. McCown reportedly drew some interest from the Lions earlier this month, but he agreed to a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints on Wednesday.
Congrats to Veteran QB Luke McCown agreeing to a 1 year contract with the @Saints

McCown was viewed as a possible backup option in Detroit because of his connection to Joe Lombardi. Before joining the Lions as their offensive coordinator, Lombardi spent time in New Orleans as the Saints' quarterbacks coach, so he is quite familiar with McCown. For that reason alone, a deal for McCown in Detroit would have made sense.
With McCown no longer an option, it really looks like it might be Shaun Hill or bust at this point for the Lions. Hill recently visited the St. Louis Rams, but he is still unsigned for the time being. If the Lions aren't able to re-sign Hill, they may have to go through with the idea of drafting a quarterback to serve as Matthew Stafford's backup.
