With the second pick in Pride Of Detroit's 2014 NFL mock draft, the St. Louis Rams select Auburn offensive tackle Greg Robinson. Lead Hunter is serving as the Rams' general manager, and his reasoning for the pick is below.
The Rams are in need of help at WR, O-line, LB and S. Buffalo OLB Khalil Mack would be a nice pick here to go with an already strong front seven on defense. Auburn tackle Greg Robinson would be my choice to help out the O-line. With Jake Long having surgery in January for an injured ACL and possibly not being ready for Week 1, coupled with the injury history with other O-linemen, I had to pick Robinson.
Robinson was a big part of the successful run game at Auburn with QB Nick Marshall and RB Tre Mason running for 1,000+ yards each. With the Rams being a run-first offense, this will be a huge plus. If Long is ready in Week 1, Robinson can start at LG with Joseph Barksdale at RT and Rodger Saffold at RG. If Long is still out, Robinson should be able to step in and cover in the short term.
Another item of note is Sam Bradford has not been the "franchise" QB the Rams were hoping he would be by now. Adding more talent to the O-line to protect Bradford and give him the best opportunity to improve will let the Rams know if he will be the guy going forward, or if they need to find a new QB.
