It's been nearly a month since our 2014 NFL mock draft database for the Detroit Lions was last updated. Since then, all of the major moves in free agency have taken place, and analysts have had even more time to think about what teams might do and where players should land in the draft. This has resulted in some interesting developments in our latest mock draft database update. Check it out:

Positions (first round)

  • Cornerback - 24
  • Safety - 11
  • Outside linebacker - 5
  • Wide receiver - 4
  • Defensive tackle - 3
  • Tight end - 2
  • Offensive tackle - 2

Perhaps the most interesting change in this edition of our mock draft database is the rise of the safety position and the fall of the wide receiver position. Wide receiver went from being the Lions' first-round pick in 11 mocks last time to only four this time around. Safety, meanwhile, went from being the Lions' first-round pick in only four mocks a month ago to 11 in our updated database.

Players (first round)

  • CB Justin Gilbert - 16
  • S Ha Ha Clinton-Dix - 11
  • CB Darqueze Dennard - 6
  • OLB Anthony Barr - 4
  • WR Mike Evans - 3
  • DT Aaron Donald - 3
  • TE Eric Ebron - 2
  • WR Sammy Watkins - 1
  • OT Taylor Lewan - 1
  • OT Jake Matthews - 1
  • OLB Khalil Mack - 1
  • CB Kyle Fuller - 1
  • CB Bradley Roby - 1

Justin Gilbert was the Lions' projected first-round pick in 20 mock drafts in our last update. This time, he's only the pick in 16, but he's still clearly the top player in our database. Even so, the margin from first to second has slimmed quite a bit, as Ha Ha Clinton-Dix finished only five mocks behind Gilbert. Last time, Mike Evans came in second and was 12 mocks behind Gilbert in the standings.
