The 2014 NFL schedule isn't supposed to be announced until 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday. However, it appears that the New York Giants' schedule has leaked out early. The Giants are one of the teams set to come to Ford Field in 2014, and the leak of their schedule has produced some noteworthy news for the Detroit Lions:
Giants open season at Detroit Sept. 8 on Monday Night Football, according to @WFAN660. #nyg

Because the Detroit Tigers are in town on Sunday, Sept. 7 -- interestingly enough, hosting the San Francisco Giants -- the thinking was that the Lions would open the 2014 season on the road. However, it appears the Lions will in fact open the season at home, and according to this report, they will get to do it on a Monday night on ESPN. The Tigers do have a game that night, but I'm betting it will become a day game to accommodate the Lions' season opener.
If this is indeed true, then it's going to be quite the party on Sept. 8 in Detroit. Playing on a Monday night has been a big deal for the Lions in recent years, but playing on a Monday night to open the season? That should take the excitement at Ford Field to another level.
