2014 NFL mock draft: Jaguars select Marcus Martin

The Jacksonville Jaguars take Marcus Martin with the 39th pick of the 2014 POD Community Mock Draft.

USA TODAY Sports

With the 39th pick in Pride Of Detroit's 2014 NFL mock draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select USC center Marcus Martin. Big.AL is serving as the Jaguars' general manager, and his reasoning for the pick is below.

While there are still plenty of holes on this roster that need filling, including OLB, WR, RB and QB, center has been a position of need for the Jags ever since longtime starter Brad Meester retired after this past season. If you weren't aware, then you've certainly seen within the past few weeks how necessary it is that the Jacksonville front office upgrades the center position.

The Jaguars signed Cleveland center Alex Mack to an offer sheet that the Browns readily matched. Marcus Martin would be one hell of a consolation prize. Martin started two seasons at USC at left guard before moving to center this past season. His combination of power and agility makes him the highest-rated center in this draft. At 6'3 and 320 pounds, he'd be among the bigger centers in the league, but his size doesn't impede his mobility. In Jacksonville, he'll be able to use those skills to step in and start right away.

Running back needs to be addressed in this draft, but I thought it could wait until their third- or fourth-round picks, along with wide receiver and quarterback. With two fourth-rounders and three fifth-rounders, the Jaguars can possibly trade back up into the third round to address some of these needs as well.

With Allen Robinson off the board, Kyle Van Noy was really the only other consideration here.
