With the 44th pick in Pride Of Detroit's 2014 NFL mock draft, the St. Louis Rams select Ohio State cornerback Bradley Roby. Lead Hunter is serving as the Rams' general manager, and his reasoning for the pick is below.
I am looking to possibly upgrade either WR or CB with the second-round pick. After scanning the list of receivers left, I don't believe there is anyone on that list who could be an upgrade. After looking at the cornerback prospects, one jumped out at me: Ohio State's Bradley Roby.
Roby has the physical skills to be a No. 1 corner with good coaching, and Gregg Williams is one of the better defensive coaches. He did have a rough 2013 season with 62 tackles, 13 passes broken up and 3 interceptions, but he put his great skill set on display at the combine and had a 40 time of 4.39.
Roby has had some issues on and off the field. He was suspended for the Week 1 game against Buffalo for some legal issues and was ejected from the Iowa game for targeting. Personally, I think Williams likes his defensive players with a little edge. Given some time, he may have Roby ready to start and be the No. 1 corner he has the potential to be.
