2014 NFL mock draft: Jets select Lamarcus Joyner

The New York Jets take Lamarcus Joyner with the 49th pick of the 2014 POD Community Mock Draft.

With the 49th pick in Pride Of Detroit's 2014 NFL mock draft, the New York Jets select Florida State cornerback Lamarcus Joyner. JWurm is serving as the Jets' general manager, and his reasoning for the pick is below.

After addressing the Jets' need for some offense in the first round by selecting wideout Brandin Cooks , I decided to go after the other glaring need the Jets have: cornerback. With guys like Lamarcus Joyner, Bashaud Breeland, Keith McGill and Stanley Jean-Baptiste still on the board, it isn't much of a reach to fill one of the Jets' most glaring needs. At the end of the day, I decided to go with Joyner here.

Joyner played the safety position a lot during his college career, before being converted to a full-time corner last season. While Joyner may lack ideal size, his play on the field certainly matches Rex Ryan's style. He has no problem jamming receivers and getting up in their face. He's also a solid tackler for the corner position. As far as corners go, he's about as physical as they come, and he plays much larger than his size.

He's best suited to be a nickelback, a position that's becoming increasingly more important in the new pass-heavy NFL. Right now the Jets have Kyle Wilson in that role, a player who has struggled mightily in his career thus far, and I have little doubt that Joyner would be an immediate upgrade over Wilson.
