2014 NFL mock draft: Dolphins select Ja'Wuan James

The Miami Dolphins take Ja'Wuan James with the 50th pick of the 2014 POD Community Mock Draft.

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Spor

With the 50th pick in Pride Of Detroit's 2014 NFL mock draft, the Miami Dolphins select Tennessee offensive tackle Ja'Wuan James. Nate D. is serving as the Dolphins' general manager, and his reasoning for the pick is below.

At this juncture in the draft, I had a lot of options, many of them less desirable than I had hoped. With no player head and shoulders above the rest, I decided to continue building up the offensive line by selecting a day one starter for the RT position and giving the Dolphins a situation that would mirror the Detroit Lions on the offensive line, with a star in Mike Pouncey anchoring the middle and two highly drafted, highly dependable new linemen at guard and tackle.

Ja'Wuan James has prototypical size at 6'6 and 311 pounds, and he started 37 consecutive games for the Volunteers in the SEC, giving Miami the exact opposite of what they had last year -- a fairly experienced, solid corps of players on the offensive line this year. Pouncey asked for an extension this offseason, indicating his desire to stay, and with vastly improved line play, this middle-of-the-road offense might open up some.
