With the 51st pick in Pride Of Detroit's 2014 NFL mock draft, the Chicago Bears select Florida cornerback Marcus Roberson. DLions4Eva is serving as the Bears' general manager, and his reasoning for the pick is below.
Charles Tillman is aging. He is still a good player, but he is in his 30s. A lot of the players I wanted weren't available when I was going to select, so I went with a player who is pretty underrated at a position of need in Florida CB Marcus Roberson.
Roberson is a bigger corner at 6'0 and over 190 pounds, and he has excellent man-to-man cover skills. With his bigger size, he has the ability to jam receivers at the NFL level like he did at Florida. His backpedal is smooth, and he doesn't have tight hips like you would expect from a bigger corner. He also has excellent jump-ball skills.
He has good speed and was often left on an island against elite competition, being from the SEC and all. Roberson should be a great replacement for Tillman when he retires and could even contribute as a third corner this year.
