Lions notes: 2014 NFL schedule coming later this month

Lions notes looks at when the 2014 NFL schedule will be announced, the idea of expanding the playoffs and much more.

  • When is the 2014 NFL schedule going to be announced? Here's what Adam Schefter had to say earlier in the week: In past years, we'd already know the preseason schedule by now, but even that is currently a mystery. We do know that the Detroit Lions will play the Atlanta Falcons in London on Oct. 26 and have a bye the week after, and their annual Thanksgiving game will be against either the Buffalo Bills or Miami Dolphins. Everything else is unknown right now, though.

  • Lions president Tom Lewand sounds like he's in favor of the NFL expanding the playoffs. Considering how tough it's been for the Lions to make it into the playoffs over the years, I suppose this isn't exactly surprising news.

  • Rotoworld believes that the Lions' top needs going into this year's draft are at cornerback and wide receiver.

  • The Lions aren't sure what to expect this year when it comes to where the top quarterbacks will be drafted. They obviously don't have any interest in taking a quarterback in the first round, but they will be rooting for quarterbacks to go ahead of them since that would push more of the top non-QBs down to them.

  • Former NFL player and current SB Nation writer Stephen White broke down Mike Evans' game in a recent post.

  • Mike Mayock recently updated his position rankings for the 2014 NFL Draft.

  • Speaking of Mayock, SB Nation looked at the hits and misses from his draft rankings since 2009.
