2014 NFL mock draft: Eagles select Bashaud Breeland

The Philadelphia Eagles take Bashaud Breeland with the 54th pick of the 2014 POD Community Mock Draft.

Joshua S. Kelly-USA TODAY Sports

With the 54th pick in Pride Of Detroit's 2014 NFL mock draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select Clemson cornerback Bashaud Breeland. N4ry4 is serving as the Eagles' general manager, and his reasoning for the pick is below.

The Eagles could really use an infusion of talent in the secondary. As a team, Philadelphia gave up more passing yards per game than any other team in the league in 2013. It was not an easy call for me to pass on Kyle Fuller for Odell Beckham Jr. in the first round, but Philly gets a pretty good value in Bashaud Breeland here late in the second.

Breeland possesses decent size at 5'11 and almost 200 pounds, and he has a good all-around skill set. He does a great job battling receivers at the line and putting himself in a position to make plays. He has a few issues he'll need to improve on, and the learning curve for cornerbacks can be rough, but I'm confident he'll offer the Eagles a strong weapon in their pass defense very quickly. It can't hurt that he comes from a Clemson program where he's been fortunate to practice against some talented NFL-bound prospects like DeAndre Hopkins and Martavis Bryant (and I think I'm forgetting somebody else, but I'm too lazy to look it up...).
