Five down, three to go.
The Detroit Lions continued signing their draft picks on Friday night by getting deals done with fourth-round pick Nevin Lawson and sixth-round pick TJ Jones. Earlier on Friday, the Lions signed Larry Webster and Nate Freese, and they signed Caraun Reid on Thursday.
The only three Lions draft picks who are unsigned at this point are first-round pick Eric Ebron, second-round pick Kyle Van Noy and third-round pick Travis Swanson. In order to sign all three of them, the Lions will have to free up $655,230 in cap space, meaning a contract restructuring will be necessary for somebody already on the team.
For Lawson and Jones, their cap hits for 2014 are expected to be $495,146 and $446,550, respectively. Neither contract actually has any effect on the Lions' cap room right now since the deals are outside of the top 51. Actually, only the deals for Ebron, Van Noy and Swanson will lessen how much cap space the Lions have, and the hope is that they will be completed soon.
