Six down, two to go.
After wrapping up their first set of OTAs of the offseason, the Detroit Lions signed third-round pick Travis Swanson on Thursday afternoon. Swanson was one of three unsigned draft picks going into the day, but with him now under contract, only Eric Ebron and Kyle Van Noy still need to be signed.
Swanson actually broke the news of his signing. He posted the following photo on Instagram with this caption: "I am officially a Lion!!"
According to Spotrac, Swanson's four-year deal is expected to be worth nearly $3 million. For 2014, his cap hit should be $574,868, meaning it will only have a minimal impact on the salary cap. (The lowest cap hit in the top 51 is currently $570,000, so the Lions barely lost any cap room with this signing.)
To sign Ebron and Van Noy, the Lions will have to restructure a current player's contract, as they do not currently have enough cap space to add both of them to the active roster.
