With the 60th pick in Pride Of Detroit's 2014 NFL mock draft, the Carolina Panthers select Fresno State wide receiver Davante Adams. SUHPERHERO is serving as the Panthers' general manager, and his reasoning for the pick is below.
Carolina's first pick was all about keeping Cam Newton protected with some OL help. The Panthers' second pick is about getting Cam some offensive firepower at wide receiver.
Davante Adams is a two-time All-American and redshirt sophomore from Fresno State. He dominated the WAC for two years and had two separate streaks of eight and nine games with a TD grab. He's only the third player this century with three 200+ yard games in the same season, and in two college seasons, Adams set the WAC record for total touchdowns (38) and a Fresno State record for receptions in a career (233). In his senior season, he caught 131 balls for 1,718 yards and 24 touchdowns. He tracks the ball well and has excellent vertical-jumping ability at 39.5 inches, and at 6'1, he showed off his sub-4.5 speed at his pro day.
Adams' good upside for the Panthers makes him a late second-round steal at pick 60. The Panthers lost nearly all of their receivers this offseason, and they need some weapons for the future. Drafting a productive college wide receiver who can be groomed and even start next to some of the new FA veterans makes him a perfect fit.
