Lions draft picks 2014: Do you approve of Kyle Van Noy at No. 40?

What do you say, Detroit Lions fans? Are you on board with the Lions' pick of Kyle Van Noy?

Lance Iversen/USA TODAY Sports

Going into the second day of the draft, the Detroit Lions clearly had their sights set on BYU outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy. I say that because instead of waiting until the 45th overall pick, they jumped up five spots via a trade with the Seattle Seahawks to take Van Noy. They didn't want to miss out on him, and the trade made sure that Van Noy was reunited with former BYU teammate Ziggy Ansah in Detroit.

The Van Noy pick was actually viewed as a best-case scenario by many going into Day 2 of the draft. Why? Well, the Lions had a need for an outside linebacker who can rush the passer, and Van Noy fills that role perfectly. He should be able to step in immediately as a starter, and he will be an upgrade both as a pass rusher and in coverage.

By taking Eric Ebron in the first round and Van Noy in the second round, the Lions have filled two of their big needs: pass catcher and pass rusher. Now they'll likely look to address their secondary in the third round.

Before we find out what happens in the third round, I want to get your thoughts on the Van Noy pick. Do you approve of it? Do you think it was a mistake? Vote in the poll below and leave your thoughts in the comments.
