Lions release Vaughn Martin, sign two others

The Detroit Lions announced several moves on Monday morning.

The Detroit Lions kicked off the week by announcing the signing of two players and the departure of two others. They re-signed wide receiver Cody Wilson, signed undrafted defensive end Kalonji Kashama, confirmed the release of defensive end Kourtnei Brown and also released defensive tackle Vaughn Martin.

We actually learned about the Brown move last Friday, but the Martin news is new. Martin joined the Lions back in March after previously drawing interest from them on a couple of different occasions. He seemed poised to be the final defensive tackle on the 53-man roster when he joined the team, but after the Lions drafted Caraun Reid, the situation at the position changed.

As for the two signings, Wilson is back yet again after being released last month to make room for the Lions' new undrafted free agents. He will likely once again just be a camp body, but he could potentially stick around as a member of the practice squad with a strong summer.

Kashama, the other signing, is an undrafted free agent from Eastern Michigan. He took part in the Lions' rookie minicamp last month on a tryout basis, and the team has now decided to add him to their roster.
