With training camp just weeks away, fantasy football season is rapidly approaching. Drafts will soon be taking place if they're not already, and more sets of rankings are seemingly released each day.
Last week, ESPN released its top 300 fantasy football rankings for 2014. This set of rankings is for standard leagues, and seven Detroit Lions players made the top 300. Take a look:
Overall
7. Calvin Johnson
29. Reggie Bush
39. Matthew Stafford
60. Joique Bell
79. Golden Tate
218. Eric Ebron
249. Theo Riddick
It's no surprise that Calvin Johnson is in the top 10, and it's not really surprising that Reggie Bush and Matthew Stafford cracked the top 30 and top 40, respectively. I am a bit surprised that Joique Bell wasn't higher, and even Golden Tate seems a bit low. Beyond them are Eric Ebron and Theo Riddick, who are toward the bottom of the rankings.
Here's a look at where the Lions landed in ESPN's positional rankings:
By position
QB | 4. Matthew Stafford
RB | 15. Reggie Bush
RB | 27. Joique Bell
WR | 1. Calvin Johnson
WR | 34. Golden Tate
TE | 18. Eric Ebron
D/ST | 19. Detroit Lions
They may have a questionable secondary, but it'll be interesting to see what the Lions do on defense and special teams from a fantasy football standpoint. This defense seems like it is going to be extremely aggressive, and that could result in a lot of turnovers and sacks. They may still give up a lot of points, but with that aggressive mindset and a solid special teams unit, it wouldn't surprise me if the Lions finish a lot higher than 19th in that particular set of rankings.
