Lions release OG D.J. Morrell

To make room for George Winn, the Detroit Lions released offensive guard D.J. Morrell.

The Detroit Lions swapped out an offensive guard for a running back on Wednesday. Earlier, we found out that they signed running back George Winn, and now we know that they released offensive guard D.J. Morrell to make room for him.

Morrell joined the Lions earlier this year as an undrafted free agent out of Old Dominion. With Travis Swanson and Rodney Austin ahead of him for the backup spots at offensive guard and center, Morrell's chances of even being in the mix for the 53-man roster were pretty slim. That made him expendable, as evidenced by him being released on Wednesday.

With Winn in and Morrell out, the Lions still have 90 players on their roster. It remains to be seen if any additional moves are coming before training camp begins in a couple weeks, but they are still at 90 players for the time being.
