Lions release OT J.B. Shugarts

To clear a spot for Garrett Reynolds, the Detroit Lions decided to release offensive tackle J.B. Shugarts.

Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

It's been a busy couple of days for the Detroit Lions from a transactions standpoint. They made a pair of moves on Wednesday, and they made another pair on Thursday.

Thursday's moves involved a swap of offensive linemen. Earlier, we found out that they signed offensive guard Garrett Reynolds, and now we know that they released offensive tackle J.B. Shugarts to make room for him. Shugarts was expected to compete for the final spot on the roster at offensive tackle after joining the Lions back in April, but now he's no longer on the team.

With Thursday's moves now official, here's a recap of the changes the Lions have made to their roster so far this week:

Signed: RB George Winn, OG Garrett Reynolds
Released: OT J.B. Shugarts, OG D.J. Morrell

Winn will likely be nothing more than a camp body, but Reynolds could potentially get into the mix for a roster spot with a strong performance in training camp. Rodney Austin is the current favorite to be the main backup at offensive guard, but Reynolds can't be ruled out considering he has started 23 games over the last three seasons.

By the way, with the Lions adding two players and releasing two players, they still have 90 guys on their roster.
