NFL's Top 100 Players of 2014: Calvin Johnson comes in at No. 2

Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson came in at No. 2 on NFL Network's Top 100 Players of 2014 list.

NFL Network concluded its top 100 countdown for 2014 on Wednesday night. The final 10 spots in the rankings were unveiled, and Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson came in at No. 2 for 2014, behind only Peyton Manning.

In both 2012 and 2013, Johnson was third in the rankings. Last season, he caught 84 passes for 1,492 yards and 12 touchdowns, and he made it clear that he's still the top wide receiver in the NFL. That's why it's no surprise that he was once again ranked toward the top in NFL Network's countdown.

With Johnson at No. 2, the Lions ended up having five players ranked in the top 100 for 2014:

100. Matthew Stafford
85. Reggie Bush
59. DeAndre Levy
40. Ndamukong Suh
2. Calvin Johnson

Considering the Lions went 7-9 last season, I'd say that's a pretty good list. You could argue that guys like Stephen Tulloch and Larry Warford deserved to be included, and you could also argue that guys like Suh and Stafford deserved to be a bit higher on the list. Generally speaking, though, the Lions fared pretty well for a team that didn't even go .500 in 2013.
